John Paul II Lecture Explores Ways to Confront Anti-Religious Bigotry

On April 19, 2023, The John Paul II Center, a Russell Berrie Foundation Grantee, co-sponsored a virtual lecture with The Jewish Theological Seminary, entitled “How to Confront Anti-Religious Bigotry,” featuring three leaders of the Shoulder to Shoulder Campaign, a US-based interfaith coalition focused on ending Anti-Muslim bigotry. In recent years the rise of antisemitism, anti-Muslim bigotry and white Christian nationalism have fueled religious bigotry and violence against religious minorities in the U.S. The speakers, Rabbi Esther Lederman, Dr. Mohamed Elsanousi and Kathryn Lohre, called for increased cooperation between religious and community leaders of different faiths to join together to counter these disturbing trends. The Shoulder to Shoulder Campaign, which they lead, is one such effort.
